Back in the Big Big City

Yay! I am finally back home after my trip out west... I came, I saw, I conquered and I was a little homesick for my desert home... But I saw a bunch of good friends whom i dearly miss... got to go to a great conference for USITT which was fun... and went to Vegas and saw two Amazing Cirque shows... OMG... I want to go back to Vegas ASAP! and now that I have a friend who lives there I totally can! YAY for fun! what an amazing trip...

but now I am back in NYC and jumping into working on the shows that I am designing and holding my breath waiting to hear about grad schools... but i am trying not to think about that right now... Back to Work!

As if I hadn't had enough of the bright lights... the amazing neon installation at Chicago's OHare Airport (Which by the by, is THE most AMAZING place to people watch ever... i heart layovers in Chicago...)

.:VIVA LAS VEGAS:. Part II

Look! Its where all the slot machines go to die... its the slot machine graveyard we happened to stumble upon at the Belliagio... Way cool!

Its just like Paris... only smaller...

Woah! the fountain show at the Belliagio was amazing!

We were stuck behind this for like an hour... all of that time we were wondering what this is?

Joshua Tree, Arizona (No U2 involved...)

God Arizona is Beautiful!

Wasn't that obvious?

Our Hot Ride...

Our ridiculously ugly rental car... woah! its like a Hurse and a PT Cruiser had a baby!

The Zumanity Theatre... My friend Bethany(whom you may remember from my European Blogs) now works for Zumanity ('the sensual side of cirque') and she got us free tickets cause she pretty much rocks at life... Yay! What a Hot show! loved it... then saw LOVE (the cirque show set to the Beatles music) at the Mirage and was completely blown away!! It was amazing! I want to work for Cirque...

Phoenix... how i miss thee...

Just got back from a trip to beautiful sunny Phoenix for USITT! 'We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun...'

It was a really great relaxing trip! It totally made me remember every reason that I loved living here... not that New York isn't ridiculously cool, but you know...

Amazing!!! I want to meet the person who is the owner of this bag!

I have always wondered what this building is... its ridiculously cool looking on the outside... I think the rumor is that its a house and someone still lives there?

This is a sculpture inside the convention center. I love this metaphor!

Trash or Treasure/Who would throw this away?

PS... thats a refrigerator door WITHOUT a fridge! that's funny!

This never gets old for me...

This is the kind of weather they invented Yellow Cabs for... yuck! I am hiding in my apartment today...

OH ARIZONA! how i miss you! sometimes when i can't feel my fingers I think back to the good old days and I say to myself... why? WHY did I ever leave you behind? silly me.

Snow in the City

So... mother nature has decided to remind us New Yorkers what winter is like here in the big apple and we have been getting a lot of small snow showers recently... I am for one not a fan... although my snow boots are totally getting broken in which is good. I just would prefer the snow to not last long... and just when you think its gone (like last week when it was in the 50's and i was barely wearing a jacket) winter rears its ugly head again! Curse you!

I call this an 'Ode to a New York Pizzaria'

Magic Flute

Saw the Amazing production of the Magic Flute at the Met... here is a picture of the curtain call... Very interesting to watch... Julie Taymor you are so cool. How can I get a job working for you?

(That pic is for you Adam since you had to miss the show... It was really special to see you on my birthday! you need to come and visit more often bro!)

Andrea and I feasting on the New York delicacy of greasy pizza and drinking tiny tiny bottles of cheap wine out of dixie cups after the show... how fun is that? only in New York...

the Freaks with out the Geeks

As Woody Allen says in Annie Hall, "Don't you see the rest of the country looks upon New York like we're left-wing, communist, Jewish, homosexual pornographers? I think of us that way sometimes and I live here."

Now i am reaching the point where i agree with him, and i have to tell Woody that he's leaving out the freaks of New York City. and what would we be with out them to realize how normal we are... Here are a few freak sightings:

I saw some man on the subway today pull out his teeth and proceed to clean his dentures for like 10 mins and then put them back into his mouth like nothing happened...

Or the other day when i was hanging out in Starbucks the other day killing time in between meetings and i was clearly reading and wanting to not be bothered and some guy off the street comes and sits down next to me and trys to get me to buy some cheap ripped off DVDs and i told him no i wasn't interested but he kept hassling me, so i defiantly in a rude way told him to leave me alone. and he totally blew up on me and yelled at me, "You don't want to buy these from me cause I'm JAMAICAN! and you're WHITE!" and stormed out the door... wtf? that doesn't even make sense!?!

but that doesn't even compare to the taxi ride i had the other day where some Chrisitan jesus freak bible thumper cab driver warned me all about the evils of homosexuality but graphically describing anal sex and all that that implies... i was totally grossed out... my personal fave was when he compared homosexuality to overeating, "it seems like a good idea at the time..."

Wow! I am so normal! don't you feel better now?
