f**king blizzard
So, as of yesterday I am offically snowed in here in Santa Fe... There is over a foot of snow on the ground here, and all the roads are closed including the only road to the airport in ABQ but it wouldn't really matter because all the flights, including mine, were canceled... I am stuck in NM until Monday... wtf.
not only were the all the roads closed but I25 was closed from the Colorado state line and I40 was closed to the Texas state line... Its crazy heavy snow, and its offical I Hate you snow. I Hate you. I am going to miss New Years in NYC because of you. you suck big time. We are going to have words and its not going to be pretty.
So I have begun a marathon of 'Sex and the City' during my house arrest and I am already near the end of the second season... only 4 more seasons to go... What else is there to do?
Pictures to come... the snow is unbelievable... Am I in ALASKA? I can honestly say in all the years we have been coming here that I have NEVER seen so much snow. its easily just over a FOOT and another 2-4 inches expected tonight... oh, joy.

Santa Fe and the SNOW!

This is Hootie, the Owl that hangs out outside our front door... he's a local.
This is the St. Francis Cathedral downtown dressed up for Christmas...
Inside the Jackalope!! I love this place its so junky and fabulously colorful.
Some Ristras!
Another Amazing Santa Fe Sunset...
I am in Santa Fe now... as you can see, I am at last enjoying my big sky country once again... Beautiful, Gorgeous, Wish you were here!
and there has been a lot of beautiful sunsets and lots of snow lately... I have to say, as much as I have gone on record as hating snow, I have say it is darn pretty when you wake up and everything is covered in snow...
I am reading 'Death Comes for the Archbishop' by Willa Cather. Its an excellent book that highlights Santa Fe's history. I can't believe I haven't read it before now... i totally recommend it to y'all. It is very well written.
I am so inspired by this town, i don't know what it is about it, but i am working hard on my grad school applications... I have officially sent in my applications and all that jazz... we'll see how it goes... until then I will relax here in my favorite city in the world.
I find myself missing the bustle of the city... a little bit. only a bit..jpg)
The snow covered mountains... the Sangre de Christo Mountains... They got something like 27" at the snow basin! yay!
our front gate and the mysterious tracks in the snow....jpg)

The ice crystals on our driveway....jpg)
Rudy after a snowy walk mid shake... he's so cute.
Ahhhhh, the quiet... no sirens... no traffic... i love it.
“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be.” - Anne Frank

A New York Christmas in Pictures

The Beautiful tree in front of the Met.
The Chrysler Building from Bryant Park...
The Tree in Bryant Park, with a bit of the Empire State Building in the background...
Skaters in Bryant Park... We were waiting for the inevitable person to fall on their butt... he he he
Another view of the Chrysler Building... I think that this picture shows what it really feels like to be in New York. Maybe that's just me...

christmas crazyness...
So, I have to say there is something magical about New York City at Christmas time... everything is decorated and there are carols and all that jazz that you hear about in 'silver bells' and all the other cheesy carols that are played on endless loop in all department stores...
BUT...
I have to say that there are just WAAAAAAAAYYYYY too many people in the city lately! and it is driving me nuts. In addition to the amazing amounts of people that usually live there are even more people who are in town for Christmas shopping... and the amount of Tourists is insane... I feel like everything all of sudden takes twice as long as usual. and i feel like if you aren't careful then you will get trampled on the streets especially in and around Times Square. I was in the Met today and i couldn't even enjoy the exhibits because there were so many people in the galleries I felt like I was tripping over 5 people at a time. So I think I will have to wait until after New Years to go back and enjoy the empty spacious galleries again.
So i am leaving for Christmas in Santa Fe soon and man oh man am i excited! because just for a few weeks i won't have to wait in long long lines crowded into tiny stores that have more people than mechanize, there will be tons and tons of room and peace and quiet to go with it and my beautiful mountains in the distance and amazing sunsets and of course my BIG SKY that I miss so much... and it will be nice just to get away for a while. The city takes a lot out of you... its rather draining...

The Bergdorf's Windows
.jpg)
So, as a fun seasonal type thing I went down fifth ave looking at the Christmas windows at all the major dept stores here in NYC... and HANDS DOWN Bergdorf Goodman's has the BEST windows... they had this antique old fashioned circus theme that rocked. I mean these windows are absolutely decedent. I loved them... here are some pick/pics....jpg)

I also saw the MOST amazing new musical... its called Spring Awakening! and its at the Eugene O'Neill theater and its still in previews until DEC 10th when it opens... OMG... its excellent. The music is breathtaking and very singable, the actors are young and also very talented singers and actors, the set and lighting rocked! Anyway... its relatively inexpensive to get tickets for (probably because its still in previews) but its defiantly Tony material. I would say it is the new RENT, (or RENT for our generation...) but its smarter and better directed than RENT... its based on a play by Frank Wedekind by the same name, and i haven't been that MOVED by show in a long time. It was really a powerful experience. Everything about it was breathtaking and genuine... I HIGHLY recommended it bloggers. If you see one show this season see Spring Awakening!
